How musical are you?

The BBC has instigated a new musicality study, together with researchers from Goldsmiths, University of London. The online test aims to create an image of Britain’s musicality, and help scientists to better understand how music shapes the brain. ‘A lot of what we know about music comes from comparisons of musicians and non-musicians,’ say the researchers, citing a recent study as an example: ‘Differences in verbal memory between musicians and non-musicians were more readily explained once musical listening and engagement were examined.’ Those undertaking the test will receive a profile of their musicality, with scores on five dimensions of musicality: enthusiasm for music, musical perception, emotional connection to music, social creativity and musical curiosity. www.bbc.co.uk
