Irish Bands at Whelan’s

Thursday, 3 November will see Redneck Manifesto and Somadrone perform at the Dublin venue.

Dublin-based band the Manhattan Syndrome will perform in the upstairs space in Dublin’s Whelan’s on 28 October, with support coming from Me & the General and Níall Cassidy. The Manhattan Syndrome is an indie/alternative band that draws on influences ranging from Sigur Rós to Leonard Cohen to Arcade Fire, to produce melodic, post-rock influenced music.

The Manhattan Syndrome released their debut EP in August 2011. Entitled And we left it behind, the EP was engineered and mixed by Alan Kelly at Windmill Lane Studios. It sold out its complete physical run of 250 copies overnight, but tracks from the EP can be obtained via the band’s website.

The Manhattan Syndrome’s concert begins at 8.00pm, and entry is €5. The concert will be followed by Whelan’s regular live music night, the Midnight Hour, in which new acts from around Ireland are showcased. Entry to the Midnight Hour is free before 10.30pm.

Six days after The Manhattan Syndrome’s concert, on Thursday, 3 November, Irish instrumental post- and math-rock stalwarts the Redneck Manifesto will perform in Whelan’s main space, with support from Somadrone (Rednecks member Neil O’Connor’s solo act). The Redneck Manifesto released its fourth full length album, Friendship, in 2010, a full four years after its last release, the EP Seven Stabs. Doors are at 8.00pm., with tickets costing €15.
