Jape Wins Choice Music Prize

The winner of this year's Choice Music Prize was announced at an event featuring all ten nominated acts at the Olympia Theatre, Dublin, on Thursday, 8 March.

Jape, a.k.a. Richie Egan, has won the Meteor Choice Music Prize for the second time. Three years ago the prize was awarded to Jape for his album Ritual. His subsequent album, Ocean of Frequency, won this year’s prize of €10,000.

The award was announced at an event in Dublin’s Olympia Theatre by one of the award’s founders, David Reid. The judges of this years award included eleven individuals from the fields of journalism and broadcasting.

Aside from Jape, And So I Watch You From Afar, Bell X1, Cashier No. 9, Lisa Hannigan, the Japanese Popstars, Patrick Kelleher & his Cold Dead Hands, Pugwash, Tieranniesaur and We Cut Corners were all nominated for the award. Cashier No. 9 had been the bookies’ favourite to win the award.
