Karan Casey Launches Kickstarter Campaign

Karan Casey has launched a Kickstarter campaign to help fund her next album. The album will focus on her own songs, with her father performing on one of the tracks.

Waterford singer Karan Casey is recording a new album of songs and has launched a Kickstarter fundraising campaign to help cover the costs. Casey is looking for a total of $15,000 (the website is based in the United States) by 27 October. Rewards for donating include signed copies of the CD, thank yous in the album sleeve, singing lessons, tickets to concerts, and lunch with Casey in Cork’s English Market.

The new album will focus on Casey’s own songs — her previous albums included mostly songs by others. Casey says that the songs are personal and map her life over last couple of years. ‘They are songs of love and healing from the inner workings of my mind,’ she said. ‘In many ways they are a huge step in trusting my own story enough to confide in you the listener. Basically they mean a lot to me.’

The album will be released on Casey’s own label, Crow Valley Music, and funds raised will cover the recording, mixing, mastering, duplication and release costs. Casey will be joined on the album by her husband, the concertina player Niall Vallely, the guitarist Eoghan Henderson, the singer Mick Flannery, and her father, Karl Casey, will sing on one of the tracks.
