A new book on the positive effects of music on children is to be launched at Charlie Byrne’s Bookshop, Galway, on Monday, 13 March, at 6.30pm. Music is the Key, by consultant speech and language therapist Karen O’Connor, describes how children with autism, Asperger’s Syndrome, dyspraxia and other developmental challenges can benefit from music-based therapy.

The book, published by Londubh Books, details how children the author has treated have become ‘more regulated and calmer’, and how children’s attention and concentration can improve. O’Connor also writes that music-based therapy helps language and learning develop.

O’Connor is founding-director of The Listening Therapy Centre, based in Furbo, County Galway. One parent wrote, ‘Karen has changed our boy’s life in so many ways — I dread to think where we would be now if we hadn’t met her.’

All are welcome to the launch. Music is the Key is priced at €14.99.
