Fiddle player Martin Hayes will judge a traditional fiddle playing competition from over 3,000 miles away this week. The competition, part of Peadar Ó Ríada’s radio programme Cuireadh chun Ceoil, takes place in Cork on Friday, 7 January. Hayes, judging from New York will watch the performances via Skype. Apart from Hayes, the competition will be judged by Seán Keane and Liam O’Connor, who will both be present in person. There are fifteen finalists from Britain, Australia and the United States as well as Ireland, with the winner receiving the Bonn Óir Sheáin Uí Ríada gold medal, as well as a prize of €5,000.
