Rura is a five-piece band from the west of Scotland including three BBC Radio Scotland ‘Young Traditional Musician of The Year’ finalists and an All Ireland bodhrán champion.

A new release later this week from Scottish label Greentrax Recordings is the debut from Rura, a young five-piece band from the west of Scotland. Rura features three BBC Radio Scotland ‘Young Traditional Musician of The Year’ finalists and an All Ireland bodhrán champion. They have recently added a singer / songwriter, Adam Holmes, to the line-up. Other band members are David Foley (bodhrán and flute), Steven Blake (pipes and whistles), Jack Smedley (fiddle) and Chris Wade (guitar).

Rura won the ‘Best Up And Coming Artist’ award at the 2011 MG Alba Scots Trad Music Awards, and were also Danny Kyle Award winners that year.

The new album, Break it Up, was produced by composer and musician Aidan O’Rourke (who will be in Ireland next month with his ensemble, Lau).
