JMI SEEKS PUBLISHING ASSISTANT
JMI welcomes letters of application from individuals interesting in working for the magazine on a part-time basis. The role will involve assisting in the publishing of the magazine across all areas, with a particular focus on business development, marketing and administration. Experience of working in a business or in arts administration is essential. Applicants should have a broad interest in musical life in Ireland and have excellent writing and computer skills. ARTS COUNCIL FUNDING
The Arts Council annual revenue funding decisions were announced in January, with 33 music organisations receiving a total of €5,117,950 (compared to €4,407,575 for 30 organisations last year, an increase of 16%). A total of €1,868,300 was awarded to 12 traditional-arts organisations (up from €1,172500 last year for 10 organisations, an increase of 59%), while six opera companies received a total of €3,788,000 (compared to €2,170,500 for four opera companies last year, an increase of 75%). In addition, €10,743,500 was awarded to 78 multi-discplinary arts organisations, many of which include music programming. Across all artistic disciplines, the Arts Council awarded €55,648,250 in revenue funding to 313 organisations, which means the general music share breaks down as follows: music (9%), opera (7%), traditional arts (3%). IRISH WORLD ACADEMY CONCERTS
The Irish World Academy of Music and Dance has launched its spring series of lunchtime concerts, taking place in the Foundation Building, University of Limerick, on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 1:15pm-2pm. With traditional and classical music from Ireland, Greece, Morocco, Sweden, England and Afghanistan, artists include the Belatrix Piano Trio, Joe Skelton, Kelly Thoma and Ross Daly, Krack, Ahab Cheikh Salah, the Judith Coe Trio, Jean Michel Veillon and Chris Wood. TERRY RILEY IN IRELAND
American composer Terry Riley (pictured right), one of the founding fathers of minimalism, will make his first visit to Ireland this summer, performing in Louth on 4-6 May 2007 in St Peter’s Church, Drogheda. Terry Riley: Spirals of Ragtime and Raga will feature the Irish premiere of Chanting the Light of Foresight, which is inspired by the eighth-century Ulster heroic tale, An Táin Bó Cuailnge (the Cattle Raid of Cooley), the performance taking place in Louth where the tale is based. Riley will also join Crash Ensemble to perform In C, one of his most celebrated works, and there will also be workshops by the composer and a public interview. Accepting the invitation, Terry Riley said ‘I am so looking forward to my first visit to my father’s homeland origins’. SLIGO NEW MUSIC FESTIVAL
SNMF 2007, which takes place in the Model Arts and Niland Gallery in Sligo on 13-15 April, will focus on Spanish contemporary music from the last 30 years, presenting work by Mauricio Sotelo, Juan-Manual Artero, Gabriel Erkoreka, Aureliano Cattaneo and Christobal Halffter. There will also be works by Irish composers Garrett Sholdice, Frank Corcoran, Gráinne Mulvey and John McLachlan and performances by Trio Arbos, Jay Gottlieb, Graham Anthony Devine and Dermot Dunne.

NYAH MUSIC AWARDS
