RTÉ Lyric FM and IMRO Composition Bursary

The compositional process will involve working with the 2011/12 Composer-in-Residence Linda Buckley in both the creation of the work, the layout and delivery of the scores and a workshop and recording of the new work with the RTÉ National Symphony Orchestra.

RTÉ Lyric FM, together with the Irish Music Rights Organisation (IMRO) will award two bursaries of €1000 each to two Irish composers, to write a five to eight minute work.

The compositional process will involve working with the 2011/12 Composer-in-Residence Linda Buckley (pictured) in both the creation of the work, the layout and delivery of the scores and a workshop and recording of the new work with the RTÉ National Symphony Orchestra.

Part of Buckley’s duties as Composer-in-Residence include the mentoring of the two winning composers, along with the writing of four new works for broadcast on RTÉ Lyric FM, a new Christmas carol and her own interpretation of the radio station’s jingle.

IMRO have specified that they ‘are interested in hearing from composers who have a track record in writing new acoustic or electro-acoustic work for soloists and small ensembles’ and who ‘are interested in developing their compositional experience and knowledge by writing for orchestra’.

The deadline for applications is 5pm on Friday, 28 October.
