Scoil Cheoil an Earraigh 2012

The eighth Scoil Cheoil an Earraigh festival will take place in Baile an Fheirtéaraigh on the Dingle Peninsula next week, starting on Wednesday, 15 February.

With an emphasis given to West Kerry tunes and playing, the tutors this year are as follows: Deirdre Grainbhéal (harp), Breanndán Ó Beaglaoich, Johnny Connolly (accordion), Colm Murphy (bodhrán), Cillian Ó Briain (uileann Pipes), Liam O’Connor, Caoimhín Ó Raghallaigh, Úna Ní Chíosáin (fiddle), Muireann Nic Amhlaoibh, Bríd Donnelly (tin whistle), Aoife Grainbhéal (flute), Cormac Ó Beaglaoich, Jack Talty (concertina), Allan MacDonald (bag pipes), Andy Ó Súilleabháin (mouth organ), Máire Ní Chéilleachair, Éilís Ní Chinnéide (sean-nós singing), Róisín Ní Mhainín (sean-nós dancing masterclass) - see video below, and Allan Henderson (Scottish tunes workshop).

Events during the festival include a singers night with Tomás Mac Eoin and Máirtín Tom Sheáinín, a night hosted by Breandán Feiritéar in honour of Moss Martin, a well known local musician who passed on many of the tunes taught during the Scoil Cheoil, a night celebrating Scottish music and its influence in Ireland, and a showcase concert on the Saturday night featuring Liam and Mick O’Connor, Peadar, Eoin and Saileog Ní Cheannabháin, Róisín Ní Mhainín, Bréanainn Ó Mathúna , Victoria Breathnach and Johnny Connolly, and the 4 Star Trio of Johnny McCarthy, Con Ó Drisceoil and Pat Aherne.
