Two Free Concerts This Week

Two Free Concerts This Week

Conor Byrne is playing in UCD, and Wally Page and Johnny Mulhearn are playing in Spiddal, but what is the connection?

Conor Byrne.

Two very different concerts take place this week on opposite coasts of the country, both free of charge, and also trivially connected.

Conor Byrne, known for his tireless promotion of other musicians, is performing a rare solo gig this Thursday, 19 April, hosted by UCD Trad Soc in the Global Lounge in Belfield and facilitated by the Arts Council. Doors open at 8pm with support provided by Fergus Mc Gorman and Fionnán MacGabhann.

Across in An Spidéal, Conamara, on Saturday, 21 April, Wally Page and Johnny Mulhearn will play at An Crúiscín Lán Hotel from 10pm.

The inconsequential connection is that Byrne’s uncle Christy Moore has collaborated with, played with and recorded songs by Page and Mulhearn such as ‘Matty’, ‘And So Do I’ and ‘Biko Drum’.
