Two New Music Qualifications

The new MA critically examines research and practice in music education, interrogating assumptions, values and practices underpinning research and practice in music education and explores areas such as sociology, philosophy and psychology.

New MA in Education and the Arts (META)

The Department of Arts Education and Physical Education at Mary Immaculate College, University of Limerick, are offering a new MA in Education and the Arts (META), the first course of if its kind in Ireland. It will be offered on a part-time basis over eighteen months and will commence in January 2012.

The MA is designed for practicing teachers (both primary and secondary) who have a particular interest and aptitude in the arts and education, artists who specialise in educational practice and policymakers or administrators in the arts in education.

The programme critically examines research and practice in music education with a view to expanding understandings of both. It also interrogates the assumptions, values and practices underpinning research and practice in music education, exploring areas such as sociology, philosophy and psychology.

Diploma in Community & Group Music Teaching

The Royal Irish Academy of Music (RIAM) Diploma in Community and Group Teaching aims to provide musicians with the skill required to teach effectively in community and classroom settings.The Diploma is non-genre specific, but suitable candidates will have a high level of musical literacy and will have some professional experience in music.

The course is taught over six intensive weekends, commencing September each Academic Year. On-site training in a school and/or community setting will also form part of the coursework. The cost [including course materials] is €1,350.
