Two New Operas from Ergodos

Two new operas by the Irish composers Benedict Schlepper-Connolly and Garrett Sholdice will be performed back-to-back in the Project Arts Centre next month, on 24 and 25 August.

Two new operas by the Irish composers Benedict Schlepper-Connolly and Garrett Sholdice will be performed back-to-back in the Project Arts Centre next month, on 24 and 25 August. Two Operas combines music, film and dance in the production.

Schlepper-Connolly’s Heimat, which features choreographer and dancer Liv O’Donoghue, focuses on the experience of modern-day nomads — the emigrant, the drifter, the commuter. Fast and loud, the performance layers interviews, film and song to reveal ideas about rootedness and belonging.

Sholdice’s Recueillement is a more contemplative piece, with choreography and dancing by Silja Thomsen, film by Krishan Hukam, the words of poet Charles Baudelaire, and the mezzo-soprano singing of Michelle O’Rourke.

Ergodos musicians for these performances include cellist Kate Ellis and pianist Isabelle O’Connell. The sound engineer is Valerie Francis, and lighting is by Aedín Cosgrave.

A launch will take place at the Odessa Club in Dublin on 2 August at 6pm including performances of the music of Heimat and Recueillement by Kate Ellis.

Tickets are available on projectartscentre.ie or 01 881 9613, and a FundIt campaign is nearly complete on fundit.ie/project/two-operas.
