Inni-K - Live at The Black Box

Wednesday, 26 June 2019, 7.00pm

Named by RTÉ.ie as one of ten fierce women defining Irish culture, Dublin-based singer, multi-instrumentalist and songwriter Inni-K has received consistent praise for her fresh style of indie-folk since the 2015 release of her acclaimed album ‘The King has Two Horse’s Ears’.

Inni-K's music draws on her extensive background in folk and traditional Irish music, even as she ventures into new musical territories. Her music combines ethereal vocals with deft musicianship, evocative lyrics (bilingual at times), and a unique approach to song-writing. Having shared stages with various renowned musicians including Malian kora master Toumani Diabate, drummer Jeff Ballard, Glen Hansard, Liam Ó Maonlaí, Lisa Hannigan and many more, Inni-K is becoming a well-established presence in Irish music.

Inni-K’s eagerly-awaited second album, titled ‘The Hare and the Line’, is out now (1st March, 2019). 'The Hare & the Line' presents a rawer, affecting collection of songs than Inni-K’s previous work; a collection varied in tone, and showing the maturity of these past years spent engaged in music. The new single ‘Just After’ was released 1st February 2019. (Watch the official video, by filmmaker Laura Sheeran here.)

Speaking about the new album, Inni-K says: “Most of the songs on this album were written over the past year or so. The whole process of making this album was very different from before. It was a much less lonely venture than previous experiences. I had the sense of a team around me – people and musicians I really value and trust.

My drummer Brian Walsh, sound engineer and co-producer Alex Borwick and I brought all our gear to a farmhouse in Wicklow for a week in December, battened down the hatches and as it rained non-stop outside, we recorded the bones of the songs, finishing it off over Christmas and early January in the Hellfire Studios and in various musician’s houses is Dublin. It was a fantastic experience.

There is a more organic quality to these songs I feel – perhaps an ease and a looseness that has come from playing and working together with the musicians on the record and the team involved in helping make it happen. It has been a very creative winter, and I can’t wait to bring these songs out.”

“On her sophomore LP, The Hare and the Line, Inni-K emerges, four years after making her debut, with greater depth to her music. Here, the Dublin-based songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Eithne Ní Chatháin sounds revitalised on this resplendent indie-folk offering.” – Zara Hedderman, The Irish Times

“It’s a spellbinding album whose myriad scenes are vivid and stirring in one way or another.” – Eoghan O’Sullivan, The Point of Everything
