Gill Books is hiring an Editor. Under the direction of the Editorial Manager, you will bring a number of titles from manuscript to print and help our authors deliver their stories to a diverse readership.

Responsible for the editorial development of a number of titles, you will help craft and shape each manuscript as part of the small team that produces our books. Your success will be in how well you unify our authors’ expertise with our vision for each title to bring quality products to market. Central to this will be your close collaboration with all departments (including production, sales and marketing) and your excellent communication with the freelance creatives you commission.

Your proven track record in developing smooth relationships will enable you to manage a number of freelance editors, indexers and designers, and handle our authors and their work with sensitivity, care and tact at all times.

Responsible for tracking and maintaining schedules alongside the production department, you are highly organised and accountable with the ability to juggle multiple titles simultaneously. Your problem-solving and decision-making skills will enable you to keep a cool head when it comes to bumps in the road.

You will be motivated by maintaining Gill’s high editorial standards and be meticulous when it comes to quality. Undertaking in-house editing as required, you will be a source of editorial expertise, and have the ability to carry out ‘big picture’ edits to make every book the best it can be.

If you have three years’ editorial experience in book publishing and are proficient in MS Word, we want to hear from you.

Closing date: 12 March
