Graduate Teacher Programme 2020

Berkshire Maestros seeks to appoint for September 2020, a small number of highly qualified instrumental/voice music graduates to join our vibrant teaching team. We are especially seeking talented young professionals eager to start their teaching career with specialism in upper and lower strings, guitar, percussion, double bass and Early Years.

The Graduate Training Programme will include:
– a comprehensive induction programme with the Graduate Programme Leader and other colleagues
– instruction in teaching pedagogy: whole class teaching, small group and individual teaching
– team teaching with experienced colleagues and peer observation
– developing skills in ensemble direction and conducting (where appropriate)
– regular teaching visits and half termly feedback reviews
– coaching sessions with a dedicated teaching mentor
– participation in whole service CPD
– developing knowledge and understanding of Music Hubs and current school music initiatives

Successful graduate teachers will:
– be outstanding musicians possessing high level performing skills on their main instrument
– be prepared to develop skills on a range of instruments within their department
– have excellent knowledge of music from a range of styles and genres, including a good knowledge of varied repertoire for their instrument
– possess a determination to create new young musicians across the county
– demonstrate the ability to inspire the next generation through live performances, workshops and taster sessions
– have a willingness to learn and be independent thinkers, using their own initiative
– be creative and flexible
– be open to new styles of teaching, using creative approaches in workshops, large and small groups to deliver music outside of the traditional school setting
