Friday, 5 November 2021, 7.30pm

RTÉ National Symphony Orchestra LIVE returns to the National Concert Hall and live audiences in November with two concerts conducted by John Wilson and Chief Conductor Jaime Martín respectively. Both concerts will take place at 7.30pm and both will also be live-streamed on rte.ie/culture and broadcast live on RTÉ lyric fm. Booking opens at the National Concert Hall on Monday 1 November at 10am.

On Friday 5 November, John Wilson, ‘a passionate advocate of English classical music second to none’ (The Times) conducts an all-English programme of works by Elgar, Britten and Jonathan Dove.

The Four Sea Interludes from Britten’s breakthrough opera Peter Grimes opens the programme and will be followed by Jonathan Dove’s ‘miniature opera for the trombone’, Stargazer, a contemporary classic that casts its eyes towards the heavens with the brilliant trombonist and former BBC Young Musician of the Year, Peter Moore as soloist. The concert closes with Elgar’s masterpiece Enigma Variations, a blend of Victorian grandeur and Edwardian grace and a cornerstone of the English repertoire.
