Margaret Burke Sheridan, Castlebar-born Diva:an Anniversary Celebration in Words and Music

Wednesday, 30 October 2019, 8.00pm

Born in Castlebar 130 years ago, Margaret Burke Sheridan became the toast of the great opera houses of Italy and the star attraction at the international seasons at Covent Garden. One of the stars of the ‘golden age’ of opera at La Scala, Puccini took her under his wing and she is celebrated today as ‘an unparalleled interpreter’ of his music. Join us for this anniversary concert to celebrate the extraordinary life of this Castlebar native interspersed with performances of the music that made her famous. A stellar cast of singers is led by mezzo soprano Anne Marie Gibbons and joined by soprano Helene Hutchinson-Murray and tenor Hubert Francis, with piano accompaniment by Siobhán Kilkelly. Anne Chambers, biographer and author of La Sheridan: Adorable Diva, will bring her story to life.
