Ikigai performs Radiohead's 2001 masterpiece re-imagined. Support by Gareth-Quinn Redmond.

Having worked together as members of Glasshouse, violinist-violist Andrew Sheeran and cellist Gabriele Dikciute formed Ikigai in early 2020, later being joined by multi-instrumentalist Ryan Hargadon. Shortly after forming, Ikigai were awarded the Music Network ‘Musician in Residence’ in Dun-Laoghaire Rathdown. They spent this unique opportunity writing original works, arranging some of their favourite music, and refining their musical vision. The residency culminated in an online concert featuring their new works, recorded in the Lexicon Studio in December 2020.

Since then, the group has performed at a number of other DLR events including DLR Choice in Marlay Park, has had their original work ‘Circuits’ premiered on RTE Lyric FM, and premiered their version of Amnesiac on the main stage of Another Love Story.
The group’s musical works are connected and inspired by a wide range of creative influences, from Radiohead, Max Richter, Jon Hopkins to contemporary classical music. They are also passionate about performing newly written works, having commissioned the piano trio ‘Melatonin in B flat’ from Irish composer Aran O’Grady.

Since releasing his first album Laistigh den Ghleo alongside the first reissue of Satoshi Ashikawa’s seminal record Still Way, Gareth’s work has continued to be inspired by the concept of Kankyō Ongaku, Environmental Music.

This concept runs throughout Gareth’s approach to writing, which focuses on building and sustaining a connection between the listener and their environment. Last year saw the release of An Fhuaim is Caoine, a twenty minute ambient piece inspired by the discovery of an old music box, which is blended together with intimate string arrangements and analogue synthesisers.
