BBC Concert Orchestra: Elizabeth and Essex

Monday, 3 February 2020, 7.30pm

Join the BBC Concert Orchestra for a free live recording of a new radio drama, Elizabeth and Essex, featuring Simon Russell Beale and with a classic score by Hollywood composer Erich Wolfgang Korngold.

Robert Devereux, the Earl of Essex, was a nobleman and soldier – and a favourite of Elizabeth I. Elizabeth and Essex is inspired by the hugely successful 1939 film starring Bette Davis and Errol Flynn, The Private Lives of Elizabeth and Essex, and by Lytton Strachey’s popular history, Elizabeth and Essex.

The action will be accompanied by the glorious music of Erich Wolfgang Korngold in the atmospheric setting of Alexandra Palace Theatre.

This unique performance of an original play, depicts the fatal love-affair between Elizabeth I and the Earl of Essex. Expect an evening of high drama as Robert Ziegler conducts music from Elizabeth and Essex and other of Korngold’s scores from the golden age of Hollywood.
