Lecturer in Composition
The Music Department at the University of Manchester invites applications for a 10-month temporary lectureship in Composition, tenable from 1 September 2021 until 30 June 2022. Applicants specialising in any field of composition will be considered, but it is expected that the successful candidate will be able to teach and supervise in areas of notation-based composition. The ability to contribute to other areas of the curriculum, such as Music Theory, Analysis, Harmony and Counterpoint, Orchestration or Film Music, may be an advantage.
You will be expected to convene and deliver course-units in composition across the curriculum, provide individual supervision to students in composition, contribute to other teaching at undergraduate and Master’s level as required, and contribute to the management and administration of the department under the guidance of the Head of Music. While the post is teaching-focused, you will also be encouraged to contribute to the research culture of the department.
You will hold a PhD (or equivalent) in Composition, demonstrate subject expertise in your specialist field, have a strong awareness of current thinking in the field, and have a proven ability to provide high-quality and innovative teaching to a range of student groups at different levels.
