Irish National Opera presents: Werther (nationwide tour)
Irish National Opera is set to present Jules Massenet’s Werther on a nationwide tour across Ireland from Saturday 22 April to Sunday 14 May 2023. The opera, based on Goethe’s influential novel, offers a poignant portrayal of unattainable love. The story revolves around the central character, Werther (Paride Cataldo), a young poet who falls in love with Charlotte ( Niamh O’Sullivan), despite her engagement to his best friend, Albert (Charles Rice).
The performance will be sung in French with English surtitles and feature a new orchestration by Richard Peirson. The running time is approximately 2 hours and 30 minutes, including one interval. An online introduction to the opera, Werther…In Focus, hosted by speaker Michael Lee, is scheduled for 20 April at 7pm.
