The Saw Doctors
Galway International Arts Festival and Róisín Dubh have announced that The Saw Doctors will perform at the Heineken Big Top on 21st July 2023. This marks the band's return to the festival, having last appeared in 2004 alongside The Undertones at the Warwick Hotel.
The Saw Doctors, known for their live performances, were first discovered by Mike Scott of The Waterboys in the 1980s. They went on to support The Waterboys during their Irish tour in 1988 and their six-week tour of Great Britain in 1989.
Their first single, 'N17', was written by the band's singer Davy Carton and guitarist Leo Moran. The band's second release, 'I Useta Lover', became the biggest selling Irish single, outselling even U2 and Sinéad O'Connor. The Saw Doctors achieved further success with a number of Top 20 singles in the British Charts throughout the 1990s.
In 2011, the band released a surprise hit when they collaborated with Petula Clark on a re-vamped version of the 1960s classic 'Downtown'. The duet reached number 2 in the Irish singles Christmas chart.
Tickets for The Saw Doctors at Galway International Arts Festival 2023 will go on sale at 10am on Wednesday 5th April. They can be purchased from www.giaf.ie and www.roisindubh.net.
