Director – Royal Northern Sinfonia and Classical Music Programme

Monday, 6 June 2022, 5.00pm

The Director of Royal Northern Sinfonia & Classical Music Programme will lead the vision, strategy, and practical delivery for Sage Gateshead’s classical music, through the Royal Northern Sinfonia and the organisation’s classical music programming and will hold a wider strategic role as a member of the Leadership Team.

In collaboration with the Principal Conductor and members of RNS, the Director will set and implement a distinctive artistic vision for the orchestra, as well as developing artistic relationships, projects, and approaches to programming with visiting ensembles and musicians which contribute to a world-class classical music offer for the North East and the development of a broad audience.

The ideal candidate will have the vision and creativity to lead and shape classical music as a central part of Sage Gateshead’s activity, bringing credibility and contacts within the music business at a national and international level. Knowledge of orchestras and a track record of working successfully with musicians and creative individuals are essential, as is experience in leading teams, financial management and communications. A strong commitment to developing a broad audience in the North and to finding ways for a wide range of people, especially young people, to connect with classical music is a key part of the Director’s role.
