Bransles & Farandoles: Medieval and Renaisssance Dance Workshop
Facilitator: Lise Carrel
This workshop looks at the sources for medieval and Renaissance dance directly to decide how we will dance them. We will look at manuscript images, Renaissance dance treatises and modern traditional dances that have direct links to medieval dances. Based on this information, Lise will teach medieval forms of dance such as the round dance (the carole) and the open-chain dance (the tesca). Moving into the Renaissance, Lise will teach some bransles, based on descriptions and music published by Thoinot Arbeau, and the formal processional dance, the pavane.
