Dumbworld presents Carnival of Shadows: #1 Possible Human

Saturday, 7 August 2021, 9.30pm

6 - 7 August
9.30pm, 10pm, 10.30pm, 11pm & 11.30pm
The Skatepark @ Abbey Quarter (entrance from Abbey Quarter Riverside Garden, Bateman’s Quay)

The sound of plastic wheels on concrete. The cries of teenage skaters. Swathes of smooth grey geometric forms concealing the ragged edges of a past that stretches back for centuries…

Kilkenny’s new Abbey Quarter skatepark provides the inspiration and canvas for Carnival of Shadows, a new site-specific installation by the award-winning Belfast-based company Dumbworld. The first part, #1 Possible Human, will be presented at this year’s Festival, with the completed work to be presented next year.

Working from archives, interviews and speculative investigations centred on the physical and emotional landscape of the area, and responding to the unique design and aural sweep of the skatepark, writer-director John McIlduff and composer Brian Irvine have crafted an atmospheric blend of music and film projection that explores the ways in which history is made, lost and rediscovered.

Join us at the skatepark after dark for a unique multi-sensory experience where street art meets contemporary art.
