Gould Piano Trio

Gould Piano Trio

Saturday, 7 August 2021, 2.30pm

The Gould Piano Trio has been compared in the Washington Post to the great Beaux Arts Trio for its ‘musical fire’ and has remained at the forefront of the international chamber music scene for a quarter of a century. The Gould players make their Edinburgh International Festival debut with a performance of Beethoven’s deeply expressive Second Piano Trio in G major and a recently rediscovered work from Russian composer Leokadiya Kashperova.

For years, Kashperova was remembered only for being Stravinsky’s teacher between 1899 and 1901, but she was also a successful composer in her lifetime. A recent uncovering of her unpublished Piano Trio in A minor led to the Gould Piano Trio themselves assisting in reconstructing the pencil manuscript, before giving its world premiere last December.

Join the Gould Piano Trio to hear this remarkable piece finally receive the recognition it deserves.

Please note that Ronald Brautigam, Esther Hoppe and Christina Poltéra were originally scheduled to perform on this date. We are very grateful to the Gould Piano Trio for stepping in to replace them.
