SEED Apprenticeships

SEED Apprenticeships

Friday, 19 February 2021, 5.00pm

Rough Magic is now inviting applications for its SEED Apprenticeships scheme.

Three emerging/early-career artists will be placed with the company annually for a 12-month engagement beginning in March 2021. Participants will be given desk space with the company once COVID restrictions lift, offered mentorship from the Rough Magic artistic team, support with their own independent projects and employment as paid assistants on a Rough Magic production for the duration of the production. They will be invited to join a dialogue with the company, with a view to honing skills and expanding creative thinking.

Who should apply?
Participants will be selected across the disciplines of:
– Directing
– Costume design
– Lighting design
AV Design
– Set design
– Sound design

The successful candidate will have a demonstrable interest in theatre production and some experience at undergraduate or Fringe level of making live work for a paying public. They will have good communication skills, and the ability both to work within and lead a creative team.

Besides proven skill and artistic ability they will need to demonstrate an original and motivated vision, ambition and intellectual clarity. They must have a good working knowledge of theatre practice and production in contemporary Ireland. An understanding of Rough Magic, its ethos and history, and a comprehension of the principal of ensemble is essential; also, a sense of the practicalities of theatre making. Proposed, but as yet unproduced, projects will be of interest to the selection panel; we aim to assist work of high merit to come to fruition where possible.
