Head of New Musical Theatre

Friday, 9 June 2023, 5.00pm

Birmingham Hippodrome has created a new role for Head of New Musical Theatre as part of its organisational strategy for 2023-2028.

The successful candidate will lead the UK’s first in-house New Musical Theatre department, commissioning, developing and producing new musicals of various scales and platforms. The department will have a year-round programme of new musicals and works in progress, and it will involve audiences in the development of new work, offering game-changing artist development opportunities.

Birmingham Hippodrome will produce its own work and collaborate to create production opportunities and sustainable models for commissions and co-productions in Birmingham and beyond. The theatre will see reputational benefit and financial reward from this work.

Birmingham Hippodrome invites applicants to join an anonymous online Q&A on 10th and 16th May to learn more about the role. The theatre recognises the under-representation of Black, Asian, and ethnically diverse people, and those with disabilities in its workforce and welcomes applicants from those backgrounds.

The successful applicant will receive a range of employee benefits, including a contributory pension scheme, personal development fund, discounted public transport pass, discounted car parking, discounted gym membership, and enhanced maternity/adoption/paternity pay. The role offers flexible working arrangements, including part-time working and job-sharing, and the appointed candidate must be able to travel to Birmingham easily and regularly. Depending on circumstances, relocation assistance may be available to the successful applicant.

The first interview will be held on 20th June, with a second stage for those candidates carried forward on 27th June.
