From Toledo to Salonika: A Mediterranean Journey
Katerina Garcia (Vocals, Shruti Box), Robert Harvey (Flute) and Peter Moc will play a selection of songs from the musical traditions of the Sephardic Diaspora.
After their expulsion from the Iberian Peninsula at the end of the Middle Ages (In 1492 from Spain and 1496 from Portugal) the Sephardic Jews established prosperous communities in the Eastern Mediterranean and North Africa. Here they continued to speak a unique dialect of Spanish, known as Judeo-Spanish, and developed a rich cultural and musical tradition which transcends geographical and chronological boundaries.
