Offenbach Bicentenary Festival

Offenbach Bicentenary Festival

Thursday, 8 August 2019, 7.30pm

Join the NI Opera Studio in celebrating the bicentenary of Jacques Offenbach, with performances of two of his one-act operettas: Daphnis and Chloe and Tulipatan

Attend a double bill of both productions in one night at the Black Box Belfast. In typical NI Opera Studio fashion, both pieces will be performed in an informal setting, sung in French, with English dialogues and translations.

TULIPATAN
AN ISLAND JUST LIKE THIS
Him or her, he or she: how can you tell, and does it matter when you are in love? Find out in a cheeky one-act musical farce by the father of operetta, and travel with us to Tulipatan, an island where nothing quite is as it seems.

DAPHNIS AND CHLOE
OR HOW TO MAKE A MOVE
What to do when you fancy each other but don’t quite know how to handle the more intimate details? Rest assured, help from above is at hand with Pan; a divinity with robust worldly expertise and the street credit to match it. Sharpen up your love techniques in this naughty musical farce.
