Band Of Burns – ‘The Thread’ album launch

Friday, 11 October 2019, 7.30pm

Band of Burns launch their first studio album, The Thread, 2 years after their critically acclaimed album Live from Union Chapel.
Band of Burns first came together in January 2017 as a one-off collaboration for two Burns Night concerts in London’s stunning Union Chapel, and The Trinity Centre, Bristol. Following these two sell out shows, the group realised the potential and the power of the project, and thus the band was formed.

A powerhouse of international touring musicians, Band Of Burns will take you on a winding journey from the driving high energy of The Langan Band and Honeyfeet, and through the exotic middle-eastern time signatures of The Odd Beats. You’ll be transported around the intricate traditional English and Irish tunes of Mikey Kenney, and held in a melting pot of traditional Scottish music from 58* North, finished with the sumptuous vocal harmonies from balladeers Adam Beattie, Dominie Hooper, and BBC Folk Award Nominee Ríoghnach Connolly.

“A shimmering collection … that does full justice to the poet’s humane vision” – The Times

Inspired to share their love and respect for Burns’ work, and the electrifying dynamic between the 12 members, Band of Burns released their first album, ‘Live At The Union Chapel’ recorded at that seminal London gig, to rave reviews. Continuing on from this initial momentum, the band has now completed two more January tours, enjoying sell out shows at The Old Fruit Market for Celtic Connections, Bristol’s St George’s Hall, and a warm welcome back to The Union Chapel.

In 2019 the band continued the steep upwards trajectory to 5 more shows in new places and an exclusive Burns Night live session on BBC Radio 3’s prime show, In Tune.

Presented by the Nest Collective.
