Irish-Language Writer-in-Residence

Applications are welcomed from Irish-language writers of distinction for the above mentioned role, jointly funded by The Arts Council and Dublin City University.

The role is designed to provide a writer with a unique opportunity to develop his/her practice in a university environment while giving members of the University community the opportunity to engage with a practising writer. The appointment of Irish-language Writer-in-Residence is a two semester appointment and is open only to writers who have not previously held an Arts Council Writing Residency. The successful applicant will be based on the DCU All Hallows Campus and will receive a fee of €20,000.

The successful candidate will offer up to six contact hours per week over two semesters, and will oversee workshops and creative initiatives in consultation with the Head of School in Fiontar & Scoil na Gaeilge. The Writer-in-Residence will enjoy uninterrupted time to advance his/her own work during official University vacation periods.

The successful applicant will be expected to deliver lectures, classes and workshops on different aspects of contemporary writing in Irish. He/she will support the community of creative writers within the University, along with giving public readings and participating in organised literary events within and outside the University community. We welcome applications from Irish-language writers who work in any of the following genres: drama, poetry, short story or novel.

To apply for the position, applicants should submit a letter outlining the reasons for their interest in the role and the ways in which they might contribute to the creative life of the University. A current CV (maximum of 6 pages) should accompany the letter. Applicants will have a strong record of high-quality publications.
