Making Waves Youth Theatre Present: The Tempest

Friday, 17 December 2021, 8.00pm

The Whale Theatre are thrilled to welcome back Making Waves Youth Theatre this December with their latest production The Tempest.

Making Waves Youth Theatre, Greystones is proud to present one of Shakespeare’s last and strangest of plays. The Tempest is a comedy about magic, betrayal, revenge, reckoning, love and forgiveness. The play is set on a mysterious and magical island where magician Prospero, once Duke of Milan, and his beautiful daughter, Miranda, live and are served by the sprite Ariel and the strange witch’s son Caliban. Years before, Prospero was betrayed and usurped as Duke by his brother Antonio in a conspiracy with Alonso, the King of Naples, and he was cast away at sea with his daughter to die. However, they survived to reach this island, and Prospero, with Ariel’s help, has created the tempest that brings his betrayers and their entourage to the island. The play begins with the storm, and as events unfold, under Prospero and Ariel’s watchful eyes, conspiracy, comedy and romance ensue. Be prepared to be transported!

Adapted by Aideen Walton / Directed by Ciarán Coogan
