Decade of Centenaries Writer in Residence

Decade of Centenaries Writer in Residence

Monday, 24 April 2023, 5.00pm

Mayo County Council Arts Service, in collaboration with the Jackie Clarke Collection, is inviting writers to participate in a special residency programme as part of the Decade of Centenaries Programme for 2023. The initiative, which aims to commemorate the complex period in Irish history between 1921 and 1923, is designed to ensure that the events of this time are remembered appropriately, proportionately, respectfully, and with sensitivity.

The residency programme will offer selected writers the opportunity to work closely with the Jackie Clarke Collection’s artefacts and develop new work that is sensitive to the historical context of the period. The goal of the programme is to create literary works that respond to the Decade of Centenaries commemoration programme in a thoughtful and considered manner.

The residency is part of Mayo County Council’s Decade of Centenaries Programme for 2023, which is focused on commemorating the Struggle for Independence, the Civil War, the Foundation of the State, and Partition. The programme is intended to provide an opportunity for writers to engage with the historical events of the period and produce work that is appropriate to the context.

Applications for the residency programme will be accepted until April 24th.
