Sunday, 17 July 2022, 5.00pm

BBC Gaeilge is offering a freelance opportunity to present a weekly radio programme, working primarily on the Thursday edition of ‘Blas’ for 4 months from September to December 2022. The programme is broadcast live from the studios in BBC Belfast between 7-7.30pm on BBC Radio Ulster, BBC Radio Foyle and BBC Sounds.

Main Responsibilities
This is your chance to showcase your voice, your passion and your talent for relating stories in an engaging and enthusiastic way to the audience. Working with a Content Producer and Assistant Content Producer, you will be the person bringing these stories to life, live on air each Thursday evening.

‘Blas’ on Thursday is aimed at a younger audience in the 18-30 age group who are experiencing life in diverse ways, developing their understanding of society and their place in it. You will be a member of this group and have first-hand knowledge and experience of what’s going on with people of your own age; their interests, their issues and how they’re making moves to establish themselves in society. You’ll have an awareness of things going on culturally and socially which will impact your life and lives of others your age, and more importantly, be able to talk about them in a coherent, relatable and empathetic way.

Are you the right candidate?
BBC is looking for individuals who have strong Irish-language skills and are keen to talk and listen to people. You don’t need to have professional broadcasting experience, but you should have a talent for this line of work. A genuine interest in people’s lives, finding out what makes them tick, and being able to articulate this in a relatable way are what’s needed for this role. The ideal candidate will be someone who is interested in and enthusiastic about life being lived through Irish, and how the voices of this community can be heard and their stories told with a keen interest in music, sport, arts, topical debate….all kinds of everything. A key requirement is your command of the Ulster dialect which will be familiar to the majority of listeners with an understanding of the language in Northern Ireland.

You’ll help find and research stories, then write scripts, record interviews and present the programmes live in the studio with the support of the BBC Gaeilge production team and studio broadcast team. You will need to be organised and used to meeting deadlines.
