Voices of Ireland - New Two-Part Series on Sky Arts, Presented by Imelda May

Tuesday, 14 December 2021, 9.00pm

Sky Arts and NOW are set to premiere a new two-part music and literary documentary series called "Voices of Ireland" on 14 December. Hosted by Imelda May, the series will explore the works of some of Ireland's most renowned novelists, poets, and playwrights.

The series will showcase the literature, scenery, and music that have shaped Irish culture and will take viewers on a tour of the island of Ireland. May will be joined by contemporary creatives, including singers, musicians, spoken word poets, actors, and writers, to recreate and reimagine the great works of Yeats, Beckett, Wilde, Kavanagh, and others for a new audience through a series of intimate performances.

The two-part series will examine the works of Ireland's best-loved writers through the lenses of place and space, exploring the landscapes that have inspired their literature. The series will feature recitations from Oscar-nominated actor Stephen Rea, Booker-prize nominated author Colm Toíbín, and Emmet Kirwan, among others.

May will also meet fellow musicians, such as Grammy-nominated Moya Brennan, Sharon Shannon, Loah, and Pillow Queens for a series of intimate performances and musical interludes.

Voices of Ireland is produced by Red Shoe Productions in conjunction with Tourism Ireland and Sky. The two-part series is directed by IFTA award-winning Maggie Breathnach, with musical creator Emmy Award winner Moya Brennan and award-winning cinematographer Patrick Jordan as Director of Photography. JD Buckley, CEO of Sky Ireland, expressed his delight in working with Imelda May on this project and showcasing the impact of Irish artists on a global scale.
