MOZART & WIDMANN

Mozart Overture Cosi fan tutte K.588
Widmann Oboe concerto
Widmann Petite Suite for Flute
Mozart Symphony No. 36 in C major Linz, K. 425

Two stunning works by Mozart bookend another glittering ICO performance. His music is infused with a sense of effortless perfection as seen in the Overture Così fan Tutte - which translates loosely as, “All women are like that.” The music sparkles from start to finish. Mozart composed his Linz symphony in just four days - a masterwork of complexity and inventiveness in such speed was remarkable. In between, Widmann’s Oboe Concerto, dedicated to Heinz Holliger, sees Daniel Bates at centre-stage. His expressive Petite Suite for Flute, dedicated to the late Aurèle Nicolet, spans a vast range, from the dark, brooding opening low in the range to ecstatic heights. This colourful rendition puts the spotlight on ICO flautist Fiona Kelly.
