The Mermaid Arts Centre will host a concert by Bray-based composer and pianist Roger Doyle on Thursday, 8th February 2024, at 8 pm. The event will showcase a diverse programme of Doyle’s music, including solo piano pieces as well as compositions for piano with synchronised electronic backing tracks.
This performance follows Doyle’s recent concert at Killruddery House and will include contributions from special guests. Cellist Vyvienne Long and dancer/choreographer Tara Nixon O’Neill will join Doyle on stage, the latter performing a piece in memory of Joyce’s daughter Lucia.
The concert’s repertoire will feature selections from Doyle’s compositions for the Gate Theatre’s production of Oscar Wilde’s “Salomé,” as well as music created for the soundtrack of the silent film “Budawanny.” Additionally, attendees will have the opportunity to experience live renditions from Doyle’s latest album, “Finnegans Wake - Suite Of Affections.” This new work includes passages from James Joyce’s seminal book, narrated by acclaimed Irish actress Derbhle Crotty and set to Doyle’s music.
