RTÉ Choice Music Prize
The RTÉ Choice Music Prize will announce the Irish Song of the Year 2022 and the Irish Album of the Year 2022 at the live event in Vicar Street, Dublin, on Thursday 9th March. The event will be broadcast live on RTÉ 2FM, and a special TV show will be broadcast on Thursday 16th March on RTÉ2 presented by Bláthnaid Treacy.
The Irish Album of the Year award is chosen from a shortlist of ten albums by a panel of eleven Irish music media professionals and industry experts. The winning Album of the Year act will receive €10,000, and all shortlisted acts will receive a specially commissioned award.
The winner of the inaugural RTÉ Choice Music Prize Irish Classic Album, in association with IMRO & IRMA, has been announced as Sinéad O’ Connor's "I Do Not Want What I Haven't Got". The album was chosen by a panel of judges, including Ann Marie Shields, Jenny Huston, Rick O’ Shea, Stuart Clark, and Paul Russell. Released in 1990, the panel felt that the album's ten songs were a stunning body of work by an Irish artist that remains resonant today.
The RTÉ Choice Music Prize is unique in that the judging of the Irish Album of the Year focuses solely on the music, rather than sales or airplay. The full list of all the judges can be found on the RTÉ Choice Music Prize website. This is the eighteenth year of the prize.
