London-born, Ireland-based pianist Carole Nelson pens sensitive tunes of emotive heft, her less-is-more approach fostering quietly beguiling trio interplay that is never showy.

Nominally, the music is jazz akin to the Nordic trio style of rippling improvisations and circuitous melody lines, but pianist/vocalist Nelson (along with bass player Cormac O’Brien and drummer Dominic Mullan) adds tonal sensibilities that bring to mind intuitive collaborations between the likes of Bill Evans and any of your favourite contemporary electronica composers.

Nelson’s 2020 album – released on the cusp of the pandemic that disrupted all our lives – was named by All About Jazz as the Irish jazz album of that year. At this year’s Bray Jazz Festival Carole Nelson will launch her eagerly awaited follow up, and play music from her new release.
