Area Leader in Composition for Screen
As Area Leader in Composition for Screen, you will lead the Royal College of Music’s renowned Masters programme in Composition for Screen. This well-established and highly competitive programme attracts students from across the world to develop advanced skills in composition for screen including film, TV and video games. Graduates of the programme have gone on to work globally, with alumni recognised in the BAFTAs, Grammys, Golden Globes and Academy Awards.
As Area Leader, you will work closely with a team of teaching staff and the Head of Composition to ensure the currency and teaching quality of the programme. In close collaboration with the RCM Digital Team and the Creative Careers Centre you will take a lead in curricular, artistic, technological and research developments in the area of Composition for Screen. You will also contribute to the development and delivery of related provision as part of the BMus undergraduate programme and Masters options portfolio. It is also hoped that you will contribute to the supervision of doctoral students.
Applicants should hold a relevant PhD and have a national or international profile as a composer for screen, with a deep understanding of industry practices and technological developments. You will have substantial experience of teaching and assessment in a higher education setting, including designing and leading modules in relevant subject areas which may include: instrumental/electronic composition for screen, orchestration, film music, sound design and music technology. Experience of teaching composition and sound design for video games would be advantageous.
