
NSO, Jaime Martín and Kirill Gerstein: Ian Wilson, Rachmaninov, Rimsky-Korsakov
The National Symphony Orchestra, led by Chief Conductor Jaime Martín, will present a performance featuring renowned pianist Kirill Gerstein. The programme includes Ian Wilson's Man-o’-War, Rachmaninov's Piano Concerto No. 2, and Rimsky-Korsakov's Scheherazade.
Pianist Kirill Gerstein, celebrated for his intelligent and virtuosic music-making, will perform Rachmaninov's Second Piano Concerto. This lyrical and passionate composition is known for its memorable melodies and was notably featured in David Lean's 1945 film Brief Encounter.
Rimsky-Korsakov's Scheherazade, inspired by The Arabian Nights, weaves a spellbinding musical tapestry with its enchanting orchestration. The piece vividly conveys tales of romance, drama, and adventure through its skilful use of orchestral sections.
Ian Wilson's Man-o’-War captures the tumultuous experiences aboard a sail-driven warship with bold and evocative music. This imaginative composition functions as a soundtrack to an envisioned film, depicting the intensity of life at sea.
