FRANCIS FOOTWORK

by David Bolger

Once upon a dance floor...in a kingdom not so far away, lived Francis Footwork:

From the company that brought you the international award-winning hitThe Wolf and Peter, CoisCéim Dance Theatre announce their brand new production FRANCIS FOOTWORK - a magical, empowering new talethat celebrates individuality and that encourages everyone to dance their own dance. Written and created by David Bolger, the production staged its world premiere at Baboró International Arts Festival for Children in October, and transfers to Pavilion Theatre, Dun Laoghaire (Nov 8 & 9).

FRANCIS FOOTWORK is David Bolger and CoisCéim Dance Theatre’s second work for children and their families. Since premiering at Baboró in 2015, the international hit that became The Wolf and Peterhas delighted audiences and critics across the globe since and with this new show audiences can expect more of the same wizardry, but with a fresh new story to be heard and a whole lot more magic in this uplifting new tale of how dance returns joy to a kingdom.

Francis Footwork is no ordinary girl - she is an extraordinary dancer. When young King Two Lefties ascends to the throne, he is convinced by trusted adviser Colonel Headbanger to rule the land with an iron fist. He wants to end all dancing. Francis and herfriends come together to teach him a dance lesson he will never forget!

“Dancing is like dreaming with your feet. Colonel Headbanger doesn’t like dreams as they can give people ideas. People with ideas can be dangerous.”

The production is the perfect introduction to young people to contemporary dance and teaches children, while reminding parents, that its easy for bad things to happen right under our noses, as freedom can be easily taken away before we know it. In the story Francis uses her freedom to persuade the Kings counsel, Colonol Headbanger, that dance isn’t all that bad and the kingdom resumes to it usual brightness through the joy of dance.

Meet the cast to DANCE YOUR OWN DANCE after selected performances:

Francis wants everyone to have the confidence to “dance your own dance”.
