Chamber Choir Ireland - ARVO PÄRT, DAVID LANG AND LOUIS ANDRIESSEN

Saturday, 25 January 2020, 7.30pm

Chamber Choir Ireland conducted by Artistic Director Paul Hillier gets the new decade off to an auspicious start by performing works by three titans of t20th/21st century composition; Arvo Pärt, David Lang and Louis Andriessen in Carlingford Heritage Centre on Saturday 25th January.

Chamber Choir Ireland continues its long association with Arvo Pärt paying tribute to the composer in this, his 85th year. The Choir presents three of Pärt's choral works: Morning Star, a cappella piece for mixed choir; The Deer's Cry, his deeply moving setting of the incantation attributed to St. Patrick, and Dopo la vittoria, which depicts St. Ambrose baptising St. Augustine while singing an ode to God.

David Lang is another close associate of Chamber Choir Ireland. The upper voices of the choir perform a selection of songs from love, fail. This is Lang's meditation on the timelessness of love. In it, he weaves together details from medieval retellings of Tristan and Isolde with stories from more modern sources.

The programme closes with Louis Andriessen’s Flora Tristan. This is a multi-lingual text by the contemporary Dutch writer Fleur Bourgonje about the French/Peruvian social activist and feminist Flora Tristan, known for her defiance of conventional models of womanhood.
This programme will also be performed in St Ann's Church, Dawson Street, Dublin on 26th January at 3.30pm.
