The Club Sessions

The Club Sessions

Friday, 10 May 2019, 8.00pm

The Tullamore Club Sessions will return on May 10th with a night of traditional Irish and Breton music with special guests from France. The first act will be Floriane Blancke who appeared on the Club Sessions stage at its very first concert back in 2014. Floriane is a much celebrated harpist and singer who hails from Paris. She is classically trained and has spent time engaging with jazz and world music, however her musical journey brought her to the traditional music of Ireland where she has made a name for herself ever since. Her acceptance into the world of traditional music is clear from the list of luminaries with whom she has performed since moving here in 2006. These include Frankie Gavin, Steve Cooney, Seamus Begley, Sharon Shannon and many more. She has had a longstanding musical relationship with virtuoso accordian player Dermot Byrne, with whom she shared the stage with in Tullamore almost 5 years ago. She will be performing solo this time around and given her multi-instrumental talents, her vocal performances and her diverse background she is sure to delight audiences on the night.
Also performing on the night, coming from Brittany, will be the duo of Sylvain Barou and Ronan Pellen. Barou is considered to be one of the finest flautists to come from the Breton tradition. He is also an uilleann piper. He is a musician that knows no boundaries and can play in a number of genres. He has made traditional Irish music his own and plays with a great depth of understanding and with great respect for the tradition. Ronan is a cittern player with whom Sylvain has formed a unique musical bond. His accompaniment is both sympathetic and complex, sensitive and virtuosic. They have recently released an album to great critical acclaim which includes traditional music, Breton music and jazz. They are certain to bring flare and energy to the stage on the night.
Tickets cost €15 and can be bought on the door of the Tullamore Rugby Club. Tickets are also available in advance. Contact 0872661822 for more information. The event will take place on May 10th, doors open at 19:30 and concert starts at 20:00.
