BBC Writers Open Call
The BBC Writers’ Room announces its Open Call for script submissions. This opportunity is not a competition but a platform for identifying and developing writing talent for potential BBC broadcast. The Open Call is focused on discovering writers rather than specific projects, seeking distinctive voices and scripts that showcase a writer’s talent, ability, and unique perspective.
Requirements and Submission Process:
Writers are invited to submit Drama or Comedy/Drama scripts for Film, TV, Radio, Stage, Online, or Children’s TV/Radio, with a minimum length of 30 pages. Scripts should be submitted anonymously and should be the best possible draft. The Open Call does not accept early, first, or rough drafts. Multiple episodes of a continuing narrative can be submitted as a single document, provided they total at least 30 pages.
The submission window is open from 12 noon on Tuesday 7th November 2023 to 12 noon on Tuesday 5th December 2023. Scripts must be submitted via the BBC E-Submissions system. Late submissions are not accepted.
Additional Information:
The Open Call includes online drop-in sessions for queries, available on specific dates in November and December. The scripts will be assessed by the BBC Writers team, with shortlisted writers offered opportunities for further development. The BBC seeks scripts that engage, surprise, and have wide appeal, focusing on character-driven narratives and storytelling ability.
