A video essay by Juliet Fraser and Jessie Rodger for MaerzMusik 2021

Recently, soprano Juliet Fraser has found herself spending more time writing words about being a performer and collaborator than time actually performing or collaborating. Following the response to her paper “An identity in lockdown“, the British artist creates an experimental video essay that invites us to meander from her interior world through her current place in the physical world to her digital interactions with a dispersed community.

This essay layers raw footage of Juliet Fraser in her erstwhile London studio space, reading her own words, reflecting on the words of others and doing her voice practice: the result is a strange and intimate glimpse into one artist’s efforts to keep creative and connected.
