The City Is Never Finished
Music by Peter Power and Michael Gallen

13 - 15 August

Cities are monuments to our folly and our power – our attempt to stake claims on the environment around us. But they are also living museums, encroached upon by the nature they replaced. The stories hidden in the cityscape, the stories that play out within and without them, are etched in stone, concrete and steel.

Nestled in the heart of the city, the Franciscan abbey has known prayer, song, dereliction, commerce and the crude hand of progress. And like many parts of our heritage, it is getting a new life, in a new version of the city.

Marking this moment in time, visual artist, theatre maker, composer and sound designer Peter Power (whose installation with Eat My Noise, fLux, was so breathtaking in St Canice’s two years ago) has gathered an award-winning creative team to present a multi-media live theatre installation performed by the music ensemble ‘Counsel’ on the grounds of this iconic site.

Peter Power is fast building a reputation as one of Ireland’s most exciting genre-crossing performance and creative artists. His work spans theatre, visual art, digital, music and live art and his exquisite large scale performance installations have wowed audiences across Europe.

For this, his first collaboration with KAF, he has reconnected with composer Michael Gallen, lighting designer Sarah Jane Shiels and video artist David Mathúna to create an immersive multi-media live promenade performance installation set against the backdrop of one of the city’s most iconic historical landmarks.

The City Is Never Finished is a journey of exploration that will take approx. 30-40minutes, or less as you decide. Audiences will be staggered throughout the evening and bookings are for arrival time at the location.
