Ruth McGinley & Darragh Morgan TOUR

Thursday, 17 October 2019, 7.30pm

We are delighted to present Ruth McGinley and Darragh Morgan, two of Northern Ireland’s leading internationally renowned classical musicians, as they tour NI for the first time together. This concert will feature two beautiful violin sonatas, Irish folk song arrangements as well as a piece by NI composer, Deirdre McKay.

Derry-born Ruth McGinley quickly became a young star of classical music when she won the piano final of the BBC Young Musician of the Year competition in 1994. From there, McGinley studied at the Royal Academy and Royal College in London and performed as a soloist with the BBC Philharmonic, the National Symphony Orchestra, the RTE Concert Orchestra and the Ulster Orchestra. She is the official accompanist for the multi-platinum selling vocal trio The Priests and the accompanist of choice for BBC NI. Her long awaited debut album ‘Reconnection’ was released on 2016 to critical acclaim.

Irish violinist Darragh Morgan leads a successful career in classical music and is known for his impeccable technique and versatile ability to perform music from baroque to contemporary styles. He frequently performs and records solo and concerto repertoire including world premieres and works dedicated to him by leading composers such as Arvo Pärt and Sir John Tavener. He has performed with artists such as Thomas Adés, Nicholas Daniel and the Fidelio Trio of which he was a founding member. Darragh has recorded over 50 solo and chamber albums for major classical music labels such as Naxos and is an in demand educator at world-class institutions such as Peabody Conservatory.

This pairing is a rare opportunity to hear two of our leading classical musicians perform together, and is certain to entertain, excite, and evoke in equal measures.
